Red pachystachys adds a vivid accent to any interior and a feeling of a warm tropical corner. Its upright shoots are covered with oval green leaves with prominent veins, and at the tips red bracts open, resembling spikes or candles. Against the dense greenery, they look contrasting and festive, so the plant becomes a noticeable detail on a windowsill or coffee table in a bright room.

It is best to place pachystachys in diffused light, without direct midday rays that can leave burns on the leaves. An east or west window is suitable, as well as a spot a couple of meters from a south window. The plant is heat-loving and dislikes drafts, so it should not be placed near an air conditioner or an open window vent.

Watering should be regular but moderate: the top layer of soil should dry out between waterings. Overwatering is harmful to the roots, so excess water is drained from the saucer. On hot days, it is useful to mist the leaves with soft water. Fertilizing is done during the active growth period; in winter, the rest period is more sparse. Red pachystachys is suitable for home or office and will make an expressive gift for a housewarming or birthday.
