Hoya carnosa is a vine with thick, leathery leaves and waxy, star-shaped flowers gathered in umbel-like clusters. Over time, the stems become woody at the base, while young shoots reach upward, clinging to a support. The leaf blades are oval with a slight gloss and store moisture, so the plant easily tolerates short dry spells. The pink coloration shows in the hue of the corollas—delicate petals with a darker center.

Place the pot on an east- or west-facing windowsill with bright, indirect light. Midday sun causes burns, while deep shade delays flowering. Water moderately when the top layer of soil dries out, and less often in winter. Drain excess water from the saucer so the roots don't rot. It works well for decorating a living room or home office, and as a gift for a housewarming or birthday.
