Fifteen roses, each seventy centimetres tall, form a tall, stately bouquet with dense buds on long, straight stems. Gathered together, the flowers create a full, striking arrangement in which each bud opens gradually, revealing layer upon layer of petals.

A bouquet like this suits grand occasions — a wedding, an anniversary, or an award ceremony — as well as a personal declaration of love. Roses in classic shades will appeal to anyone who values formal beauty and scale: the tall stems allow the arrangement to stand in a floor vase, where it will become the focal point of a spacious room.

To help cut roses hold their shape longer, trim the stems at a sharp angle and place them in clean, cool water, changing it daily. Keep the vase away from direct sunlight, draughts, and fruit — these speed up wilting.
