A few simple steps will help hyacinths last longer in a vase.

Trim the stems. With a sharp knife, cut the ends of the stems of a freshly received bouquet at an angle by 2–3 centimeters. This helps the stems absorb moisture. Refresh the cut every two days — this keeps them fresh longer.

Choose the right vase. Hyacinths need a stable vase with a wide neck so that the heavy blooms don't tip it over. Pour cool water into the vase to about a third of the stem height. It's important to make sure the leaves don't end up in the water — otherwise they will rot.

Change the water. Every 24–48 hours, pour out the old water and add fresh. Rinse the vase and stems under running water to remove slime and bacteria. A nutrient mix for cut plants in the water is optional: a spoonful of sugar with a few drops of lemon juice will do the trick.

Keep them cool. Hyacinths don't like heat or direct sunlight. Keep the vase away from drafts, heaters, and fruit: the ethylene released by fruit makes flowers wilt faster.

Remove wilted parts. Gently remove faded flowers from the cluster. This keeps the bouquet looking neat and prevents bacteria from spreading.

Mist them. Once a day, you can mist the blooms and leaves with cool water from a spray bottle — in a dry room, this refreshes the flowers.

Don't place them next to other bouquets. Hyacinths release ethylene, which can shorten the life of other flowers. If you want to keep other arrangements, put them in different rooms.

Watch the bulb. If you received a hyacinth with a bulb, don't cut it off — it continues to nourish the plant. Just keep the bulb above the water, not submerged in it.

With proper care, hyacinths can last in a vase for up to 7–10 days, gradually opening new buds. Change the water regularly and refresh the stem cuts — this way the bouquet will stay fresh longer.
