The Pachira aquatica brings an atmosphere of calm and a touch of the exotic to any interior. Its recognizable feature is a thickened trunk, resembling a braided plait or a bottle-like base in which the plant stores moisture. On top, a lush crown of green palmate leaves unfolds, creating a sense of tropical greenery even in an ordinary room.

It is best to place the little tree in a bright spot, but away from direct midday sunlight — a windowsill with soft, diffused light or a table near a window will do. Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out: the moisture stored in the trunk lets the Pachira survive short breaks between waterings. In winter, reduce watering, and in summer make sure water does not stagnate in the saucer.

The bonsai shape makes the plant a striking focal point in a living room, study, or hallway. It is a fitting gift for a housewarming or to mark the start of a new venture — for example, for setting up a workspace. The Pachira aquatica requires no complicated care and gradually becomes a noticeable part of the surroundings.
