Depending on the variety — Unshiu or Bonsai — small orange fruits may appear on the branches and remain on the plant for several months. Over time, the trunk thickens and takes on a striking shape, so the tree looks like a miniature copy of a mature citrus.

It is best placed on a windowsill with bright, indirect light — a south or southeast window will work if lightly shaded at midday. In summer, it is beneficial to take it out onto a balcony or terrace, protecting it from drafts. Water moderately: the top layer of soil should dry out, and standing water in the saucer is harmful. In winter, water less often, and with cool conditions — about once a week. It is good to mist the leaves with soft water.
