Home Care for Anemones

In a vase, anemones last 5–7 days with proper care. To make anemones in a vase last longer, a few steps are enough.

After receiving them, first refresh the cut: a sharp knife held at an angle helps the stems absorb water more actively. Make a new cut two to three centimeters above the old one. Before placing the flowers, wash the vase with soap — it must be clean. Pour cool water into the clean vase and, if available, dissolve flower food in it. If you don't have special food, add a tablespoon of sugar and a couple of drops of lemon juice to the water.

Every two days, change the water in the vase and refresh the stem cuts. Remove leaves that end up under water: they rot quickly and make the water cloudy. Direct sunlight, drafts, and a fruit basket nearby ruin anemones: ethylene speeds up wilting. Place the vase with anemones away from radiators and heaters: in a cool place, the flowers will last longer.

Petals that have lost their firmness can be revived: put the anemones in a cool place overnight, for example on a balcony if it's not too cold there. In the morning, the flowers often recover. Do not spray anemones: water droplets on the petals can leave spots. The vase itself doesn't need spraying — it's better to maintain air humidity around it.
