Cissus caduciferus

probuket

The caudex cissus will appeal to those who appreciate unusual plants with a strong character. Instead of the usual vine, this is a compact plant with a thickened woody base—a caudex—from which thin shoots with green leaves rise. The caudex resembles a small natural sculptural element, so the plant looks equally at home in a minimalist interior and among other houseplants.

Place the cissus in a bright spot without direct sunlight—a windowsill with diffused light or a shelf deeper in the room will work. Water moderately, allowing the soil in the pot to dry out between waterings: stagnant moisture is harmful to the caudex. In winter, reduce watering, and in summer the plant responds well to fresh air without drafts.

Such a cissus makes a suitable gift for a housewarming or for a colleague who is passionate about plants.
